Healing journey

I’m on a healing journey after I was in an abusive relationship for many years and also was sexually assaulted a few years ago. In my search for healing, I have learned many things about different healing therapies outside of just the regular therapies. I’m all for traditional therapy (like psychotherapy, EMDR, CBT, DBT, etc) but I welcome a blend of both that and more holistic alternative therapies. I think both are useful at the same time and both should be applied because they complement each other well. Ideally, holistic healing therapies should be done alongside traditional evidence-based therapy.

However, if you can only use one therapy though, I would say go for traditional evidence-based treatment. But with that caveat, let’s talk about all the other holistic healing therapies I’ve read about and studied…

Trauma-informed care

Trauma-informed care is evidence-based, so this does not count as a holistic healing therapy. However, I’ve studied this by taking online courses, and I also like to have that information. It’s good to have evidence-based information and blend it with holistic healing. I’m focusing mainly on trauma-informed care because I have been through trauma, but of course, one can focus on different things within psychology and therapy.

I take courses on Udemy and they are the following:

  • Certification in Trauma-Informed Coaching & Counseling by Instructor Trey Malicoat, M.S.
  • Providing Trauma-informed Care by Instructor Donn Kopp.
  • Understanding the Impact of Trauma in Early Childhood by Instructor Mary Allison Jensen, MSW.
  • Advanced Level Psychology by Instructor Elmira Strange, Psychologist.
  • Gestalt Psychotherapy – Accredited Certificate by Instructor Elmira Strange, Psychologist.

Sound healing

Another healing therapy I fell in love with just recently is Sound Healing! I’m a musician so it feels natural for me to enjoy sound in this way.

I take the following course on Centre of Excellence:

  • Advanced Sound Healing Diploma

Shadow work

I’m learning shadow work which was first developed by psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. I don’t participate in any formal training for this, but learning about it on my own.

Reiki

I’m currently at level 1 as a Reiki practitioner but I want to go all the way up to a Reiki Master!

  • Reiki for Witches level 1, 2 and 3/Master by Magick U (via Udemy)
  • Reiki level 1, 2 and Master by instructor Melissa Crowhurst (via Udemy)
  • Reiki level 1, 2 and Master by instructor Aimee Phlegar on Academy of Ancient Magik
  • Reiki level 1 and 2 at Centre of Excellence
  • Angel Reiki at Centre of Excellence

I prefer to learn Reiki from multiple sources since I believe in cross-referencing when it comes to these types of knowledge.

Other forms of healing work

There are other forms of healing work I’m interested in as well:

  • Trauma-informed Yoga
  • Somatic Therapy
  • Crystal Healing
  • Energy Healing (other than Reiki)
  • Art Therapy
